When Celebrating Thanksgiving, Ask What it Means to You

What is Thanksgiving for you?

I love Thanksgiving because it's one of the few times in the year that I slow down, reflect on what I'm thankful for, and spend time with my family. I know it's a holiday that people have mixed feelings about, but for me, it's a reminder to take time for what really matters.

Thanksgiving is all about being thankful, and I am so grateful for the people in my life who make me feel loved, supported, and encouraged daily.

I am also thankful for the things that make our lives easier: warm clothes and shelter, technology, education... The list goes on! It's easy to forget how much we take for granted when we don't have it. It's a time to be grateful for everything we have and all the things we'll get in return.

One of the best things about Thanksgiving is the food. I love the turkey and mashed potatoes, but I also love the pumpkin pie and stuffing. I can't even think about Thanksgiving without thinking about all the delicious food that goes along with it.

If you're in my city of Orlando this week, you may have dinner at one of these local black-owned restaurants: Nikkis Place opens on Wednesday, November 23 (Thanksgiving Eve) for Limited Dine-In and TakeOut till 5 pm or catering Pickup only on Thursday, November, 24, DajenEats opens on Wednesday, November 23 (Thanksgiving Eve) and Friday, November 25 till 6 pm, STREETWISE opens on Wednesday, November 23 (Thanksgiving Eve) till 7 pm.

Happy Thanksgiving!
