Being a woman comes with a lot of responsibilities. Establishing a business as a woman can add more to that responsibility and can take a toll on your mental and physical health.
And if you're just starting, it can feel like the responsibilities of running your own business and taking care of yourself are in direct competition with each other. Taking care of your business is as important as taking care of yourself.
Self-care is essential, especially when you run your own business because it keeps you balanced, reduces stress, and makes you feel more content. Moreover, it’s natural that when you feel good about yourself, it will help you accomplish amazing things on a professional level as well.
Here are some ways to practice self-care for women entrepreneurs:
Mind
Mindset. Be more open. Allow yourself to go through new learning experiences. This will open you to a different perspective.
Boundaries. Learn how to set boundaries. Saying yes all the time can lead to burnout and will drain your energy. Putting yourself first is not selfish!
Be kind to your mind. Learn to be conscious of your thoughts. As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to be hard on yourself. Practice tuning what’s going on in your mind and learn which things you can control. One way you can be kinder to your mind is by repeating positive affirmations.
Soul
Mindfulness. Allowing yourself to be involved in the present moment can lead to increased focus and reduced stress. You can practice mindfulness through meditation, practicing deep breathing, and expressing gratitude.
Journal. It’s a way to release and organize your thoughts. You can journal by just dumping your thoughts or following some journal prompts.
Connect. Connect with fellow women entrepreneurs. It’s important to surround yourself with the same women who are sharing the same experiences and the same journey as you.
Social Detox. Temporarily clear notifications and stay away from your busy calendar when it gets too much. You have more time and room to be mentally and physically present, focusing on both yourself and those around you.
Body
Take a break. Whether it’s a day off or a vacation, you deserve to take a break from all your hard work.
Rest. Sleep is one way to prioritize self-care. Getting enough sleep will help you function better and it will also lead to helping your mental health.
Exercise. Moving your body has been proven to an essential for self-care. It helps with your overall physical health and also mental health. Whether it’s going for a simple walk, yoga, enjoying nature, going to the gym, or even at your own home!
Nourish your body. Make sure to eat nutritious meals and stay hydrated. Fuel your body with all the nutrients you need.
Vitamin D. Go outside and get some sun. It has been proven that sunlight enhances mood in general, boosts vitality, and can help in the prevention of depression.
Establish a skin-care routine. When we think about the word self-care, we usually think about skincare, face mask, and bubble baths. This is one of the many ways to establish a self-care routine and it’s easy!
You can establish your self-care in many ways. Nurture your mind, soul, and body as this is the pillar of your whole well-being. Remember that self-care is not selfish. How do you define self-care?
